Are you looking for things to do with friends? If you’re bored and looking for fun things to do or you’re wanting activities other than going out to eat with friends, then this list is for you.

Don’t get me wrong… I love going out to restaurants and discovering new spots with friends. But as an adult, it can be hard coming up with fun ways to hang out that don’t revolve around eating out. That’s what inspired this post! I’ve put together a list of fun, easy, and budget friendly ideas to help you switch things up and make the most of your time with your friends.

Things to do with friends

Things to do With Friends

1. Go Shopping

Whether you’re heading to the thrift store, the mall, or even the grocery store, go shopping together and just enjoy browsing through different items. It’s a simple way to have fun and spend time with your friends.

2. Have a Bible Study

Studying the Bible on your own is great, and having a Bible study with a friend or in a group setting is even more amazing. It’s a chance to not only dive deeper into God’s Word, but to also hear different perspectives and how others are processing scripture. Plus it’s a beautiful way to grow in fellowship, do life together, and keep each other accountable in staying consistent with reading the Bible.

3. Have a Movie Night

One of my favorite things to do with my friends is having movie nights. Sometimes we get together in person. However, most of the time, we each watch from home ( to make it more convenient). We’ll use something like SharePlay so we can all watch the movie at the same time and still enjoy it together, even from different places.

4. FaceTime and Just Have Each Other in the Background

Who says video chatting always has to mean having a full on conversation? Sometimes it’s fun to just FaceTime and have each other in the background while you both do your own thing. It’s super chill, you can randomly start talking at any point, then go right back to whatever you were doing. It’s like hanging out without the pressure to constantly talk.

5. Spend the Day Together and Vlog It

Spend the day together and vlog the whole experience! It’s a fun way to capture memories, be silly on camera, and document all the little moments throughout the hangout. If you want to go the extra mile, you can even edit all the clips into a full vlog to watch later with your friends.

6. Go Out to Eat

Going out to eat is a classic way to spend time with friends. You can meet up at a café for breakfast or brunch, or head to a chill restaurant for dinner. It’s simple, fun, and always a good excuse to catch up over good food.

7. Invite Them Over and Cook Together

Continuing on the topic of food, invite your friends over for a “cook with me” night. You can all team up to make a meal together and then enjoy it after. I’ve seen people do things like making pasta from scratch, but you can keep it as simple or fancy as you want. Whether it’s a full course meal or just some quick and easy dishes, it’s all about the experience together.

10. Start Seasonal Traditions Together

One of the best things that I’ve started doing a couple years ago within my friend groups, was starting seasonal traditions together.

For example, in the fall, we celebrate Friendsgiving. In the winter, we throw a fun Friendsmas party. And every summer, we have an annual pool party or take a summer trip. It’s such a fun way to stay connected and create lasting memories throughout the year.

Let’s be real, weekends can get super busy, and can be tough trying to fit everything into just Saturday and Sunday. Come up with a list of fun trivia questions about yourself. Like your favorite things, random facts, or personal preferences and have your friends do the same. You can either each create your own personalized set of questions or come up with one shared list for the whole group to answer. Then, take turns guessing each other’s answers to see how well you really know one another. For example, you can ask things like:

  • What’s my favorite dessert?

  • Who was my celebrity crush growing up?

There’s something so peaceful about sitting outside, taking in the natural surroundings, and just relaxing. 21. Go to Local Events in Your City

One of my favorite things to do with friends is check out local events happening around our city. Now granted, I live in a pretty urban area, so there’s usually something going on. So look on relying to see if your city or town has any local event events coming up (even better when they’re free!). You can check your city’s website, social media pages, or EventBrite to check for any upcoming events.

22. Start a Book Club

If you and your friends have been wanting to read more, this is your sign to start a book club. It’s a fun way to stay motivated, ESPECIALLY if you’ve been struggling to get back into reading. Once you push past that initial challenge, you’ll probably find yourself actually looking forward to reading. Pick a book (fiction or nonfiction), read it together, and then meet up at the end of the week or month to chat about it.
